It became clear to me once again while gathering the audio for this episode that when people genuinely care about you, they show it not just through their words, but through their actions.
This was a fascinating topic to explore, and one response in particular completely caught me by surprise. I genuinely wasn’t expecting that perspective, and after listening to it, I privately commended the person for their answer.
Personally, I support Peter Obi, and I hope you do too. My desire is simply to see Nigeria become a better country.
I stay away from the news most of the time because there is already so much bad news, and what hurts even more is seeing how little is being done about the insecurity and poverty affecting so many people.
I am especially grateful for the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, who has been doing a commendable job. Looking at what he has achieved so far reminds me that people truly thrive when good leadership is in place.
Whatever your political views may be, let’s choose love over hate.
In this episode, I asked people whether they would see their partner differently if they supported a political candidate they believed was incompetent. I also wanted to know whether political differences should affect a relationship and if couples should support the same candidate.
The responses were varied. Some people believed that political choices reveal a person’s values and that supporting a poor leader could be a deal breaker in a relationship. Others felt that while partners may disagree politically, everyone still has the right to make their own choice without it damaging the relationship.
Listening to the different perspectives reminded me that politics is deeply personal and often shaped by people’s values, experiences, and circumstances. Whether couples agree or disagree politically, the conversations highlighted the importance of empathy, respect, and thoughtful decision making.
Elections are next year. Please tell me you’ve got your PVC and you’re also going to vote for the right person. I am Nessa Hagoz.
This is Bathroom Musings, episode 8. I asked my fans if their partner slash talking stage wanted to vote for someone who they perceive as incompetent, if it’ll change the dynamics in the relationship, if it’ll change the way they perceive their partner, and if partners are supposed to vote for the same particular candidate. I’ve got different answers and please remember that their opinions are theirs and don’t reflect mine in any way. Please do well to share and thanks for listening.
Until next time, see ya. Over to my friends. So, it’s just, it depends actually.
If, let’s say, there are two parties and then the two candidates of both parties are actually good, I don’t actually mind. But in a case where, let’s say, in Nigeria now, let’s use Nigerian situation now as an example, like now it’s, let’s say, Tinibu and Pitopi, and then my partner is hell-bent on choosing Tinibu. It shows the kind of mindset the person has and it speaks a lot about the person, because I feel like the kind of people we look up to shows a lot about ourselves, because we look up to people that, we look up to people that we want to be like, to get.
So, if he’s hell-bent on, let’s say, Tinibu or on that particular party, then he speaks a lot about himself. And, yes, it makes me perceive him in a different way if the party he supports in his path, or the person he supports in his path, it makes me see him in a different way, because if he can choose to support a party that basically causes or brings in, brings suffering and mediocrity and, you know, all those bad stuff, that means he can be comfortable seeing me in, or he can be comfortable seeing me in a place of suffering, because if those bad people come into play, and we’re not benefiting anything from them winning, that means he basically wants us to suffer, to get. And then, I don’t think partners should support the same candidates, because we all have our different ideologies, even before we became partners.
So, I don’t think supporting the same party or the same candidates actually matters, actually. But, in the case of where one is negative and where one is positive, I feel like the two, the partners should lean towards the positive side. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow.
That’s a very good, very serious and very interesting question there. If someone, a partner, I’m in a romantic relationship with, has that kind of view, my perception, sincerely, sincerely, my perception of that person will not be the same as it was before then. It’s just the truth.
Especially, especially because of the fact that, not that we are receiving any benefit, either directly or indirectly, from such a bad leader, from such a bad leader. So, I will not continue seeing that partner the same way I used to see the person. It’s just the truth.
Then, the way I relate with the person will also change, sincerely. Talking about the relationship dynamics, it will change. Because, I will just see that the person’s value system is not what it should be.
Although we all are different, we should not be, we can’t be the same, we can’t see things the same way. But, there are basics when it comes to values or value system. They should be the same in some very important aspects of life.
So, that’s it about that one. Then, and that leads me to the last part, which is, I think, and I believe strongly, in fact, that’s what it should be for me, that’s what it should be for me. Partners in a romantic relationship should, should have very similar, not necessarily exactly the same political ideology, political philosophy, political view, or the way they see political figures, but it should be very similar.
A situation where both of them are parallel lines, as in this case, for me, is not really good at all. So, that’s my view on this. Thank you so much.
Hello. So, sincerely, I was triggered by triggeredstion question. The first part of the question I really wanted to answer, but I said, no, calm down, because we are going through anger management classes, okay? So, I had to calm myself and listen to it till the end.
So, here’s the thing. Okay, in fact, there are people who were friends with me, like these people, I’ll talk with them every day. I blocked them.
We are no longer in communication because they supported, not recently, when this present government wanted to come into power. They were just being tribalistic about the whole thing. Oh, allegedly, please, you guys are saying he was a XXXXXXXXXX.
XXXXXXXXXXs, they’re usually very liberal with money. You know, money will be circulating. Please, where is the money circulating? And the worst part is those same people, when I see their social media accounts, I’m seeing some of them complaining of the present government.
It does not make any sense. Yes, everybody must not have the same opinion, be it politically, religiously, financially. You know, we are all made different, right? But please, use your head.
Have empathy. Use your head. You’re seeing that things are going south, things are going bad with this current government, and you still want to put your head there just because he’s from the same tribe as you.
It doesn’t make any sense. And at the end of the day, you’re suffering. We’re all suffering together.
So, yes, we must not all have the same opinion, but please have sense. In fact, one of the people I blocked was asking me out. And this person, you know, my love language is gift-giving, right? I’ve gifted this person.
I’ve invested my time, my money into this person. The person has done same to me. And please, I blocked the hell out of him.
Later on, when he asked me, I was like, I saw him moving there every second. He was like, oh, you’re the one that blocked me. You said you’re not.
I said, yes, this is the reason. He was like, ah. Like he had known that this government is very terrible.
So, I don’t know. If two of you are supporting the same party, fine. But don’t do that rubbish and come to me.
But this, ah. Wait. Sorry, Obo.
Ah. Anyway, this has two sides to it. Because the other party could be deemed to be a party where you have no stakes in it.
You’re not benefiting anything from it. It’s actually maybe making your life worse. Or your family’s life worse.
And the main party may be that party that is actually doing the right things. Or a party in which you are benefiting personally. And that means, if you benefit, it means your partner also benefits.
So, for a partner who is actually benefiting from something, to come out and now say that he or she is not interested or wouldn’t be voting for the main party and would rather vote for the other party, then it’s a problem. It’s really a problem because the question is, are the two people actually gaining from each of the parties? If you’re just gaining from only one of the parties, then I mean, it should be, it’s a no-brainer there that both parties should support that party that is actually putting food on their table or giving them the security they need or whatever. That’s why you see in the country we find ourselves now, you see some big men in particular who would tell you that this government currently in this country is actually doing the right thing because you actually praise that government that actually benefits you.
So that’s why you see it everywhere. Sometimes maybe you start talking about politics and you see people keeping quiet. Most times those people keeping quiet are people who actually benefit from the bad government, the so-called bad government.
So, it’s a question of who is benefiting what. If it’s the man that is benefiting from the government and the woman, she’s not benefiting from the other party and she now says she wants to vote for the other party, then her character should be questioned really. Her character should be questioned.
So, those kind of people you have to, you know, you have to use a long spoon when dining with them on the same table because they are dangerous and you actually have no business with such a person. You have to try to caution. As for me, I wouldn’t take it personally.
I wouldn’t. So, if my partner is hell-bent on voting for other party, it really affects my relationship because I believe that partners are supposed to support the same party, especially when, let’s say, one party is not doing well and the other party, like, how do I say it? Like, especially when you know that the one you want to vote for is the one that will turn things around in your country, the one that will make your life easy. And I see my partner trying to vote for the one that makes life very difficult for the country.
Come on now. That means both of us don’t have the same shared values. That means we don’t have the same, like, you know, God said that two will come together to become one.
So, I just think that as we have become one, so shall our decision-making be. So, it’s a big no-no for me. It’s a big no-no for me, for my partner to support another candidate.
No, guys. I really feel like I should drop this year because to me, I mean, this is the first time I’m having a divergent view with my partner in respect to the coming election. You know, it has to do with her choice of candidates and the person she wants to vote for, you know.
And I’ve been thinking, like, why? Why do you want to vote for this person? Please, I’m not calling names, okay? Why do you want to vote for this person? You understand, like, I don’t see any reason why you should be voting for this person, you know. But she’s bent on doing that, like, she actually wants to vote for that person. And for some of you that will be thinking, shouldn’t this be putting a strain on the relationship? For some of you, but for me, no, no.
I know that we should have divergent view, you understand. And it’s her right to vote for whoever she wants to vote for. And it’s also my right, inasmuch as it would have been better if we both were actually on the same page, you know, with the same candidate.
But she actually made her choice and she wants to vote for this candidate. And for me, I don’t like her choice of candidate. But it’s her right and I’m hoping that she might be wrong and might be right at the end of the day, alright? But I wait to see her reasoning, you understand.
But like I said, why I need to drop it here is this is the first time she has to do it and I wait to see. Thank you.
